Book Reports

Great news!!  Every student has selected a book -- Woohooo!!  Their job now is to read the book.  It should be coming back and forth with them each day to school since they often have time to read during class.  Some students have even selected the type of project they would like to complete & received the directions from me.  There's no rush to do it now, but probably in the next week or so.
Book Reports are due Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Progress Reports

I am in the process of starting Progress Reports for the 1st Trimester -- it's hard to believe the first trimester is almost 1/2 over.  Progress Reports are due to Ms. McCormick next Friday and will be visible to you on October 4th.  Please help your child in making sure their late/missing work is complete so that their grades accurately reflect the work they are doing in class.

Agendas / Google Classroom

There may be some days where your child needs to finish up work at home from the school day, or from an absence.  It will most likely consist of work that -- by the end of day -- was not completed.  Every day we write our work [done or not] on an "agenda paper."  Please check in with your child each day when they come home from school to see if they have any work to be finished up from the day.   This will help them budget their time and plan accordingly, especially if they have afternoon/evening activities.  It is also helpful to check in with your child's Google Classroom account [have them show you theirs] in order to see what has been turned in and what may still be missing.

XtraMath for Math Facts

Today, the kids signed in to XtraMath class online. The link is on my website & on Clever. This is an easy, FREE, program that can be used to practice math facts. The most common question I get is...how can I help my child succeed in 4th grade?? Mastering math facts will help them be more confident as we tackle the more complex concepts later in the year. We no longer do time tests as speed is not really important. Accuracy is important. This is also a way that a struggling student can practice in the privacy of their own home to get better.  I am asking students to do one session each day which takes about 5 minutes.  Right now everyone is on addition & subtraction--and moving forward into multiplication & division as needed.  Later on I will move everyone to multiplication & division as these are the most important facts for 4th grade math.

No School ~ Monday 9/6

Accelerated Reader ~ AR

Our class is starting to use Accelerated Reader!!
Accelerated Reader [AR] is an online program that allows your child to take comprehension quizzes on books they've read.  AR is a way for you us to track what books your child is reading and how well they comprehend.  Student can take quizzes between 7am and 3pm.  Please do not help your child with quizzes -- quizzes should show what THEY know, not you.  8-)

I will give each student a point goal to reach each trimester.  Next week I will show the kids how to log in & track their progress.  If a child reaches his/her goal early, s/he and I will chat about adjusting their goal to meet their needs.
