Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books
Nelda Mundy's Battle of the Books team, the "Terrific Timberwolves" [which included our very own Sebastian Stamat & Jenna Choy], came in 3rd place yesterday!!
WOOHOOO!!
They battled hard in the tie-breaker round--answering many very difficult questions accurately.  This team surely knew their content!  We are SOO PROUD of them!!

Living Museum SUCCESS

Image result for teamwork

Your kids were absolutely amazing today! They were so enthusiastic and prepared. The teachers & students loved the presentations. It was great seeing so many of you parents first thing this morning to observe the projects. This was our first Living Museum. We are definitely adding it to next year's calendar. My favorite part was that the kids really created the projects themselves. I also loved the teamwork involved when the students who were finished jumped in to help others. A very special project indeed!

THANK YOU!!

Image result for thanksThank you for the thoughtful cards, gifts and flowers for Teacher Appreciation Week!
I LOVE teaching your kiddos. We have a lot of fun together, and we all learn so much from each other. We still have a lot of ground to cover in the next 4 weeks. Let's keep the kids focused and on track for a strong finish as they head off to 5th grade.

Biography Day

The time working on our Biography Boards at school is done!  Any boards that are not done are going home today--to be returned Monday.   I am very proud of the kids as they completed all the work on their own at school. I offered tips and modeled how to mat and arrange things on the boards, but they did the work all by themselves! The best part was watching the early finishers jump in and help those who were struggling. Our projects are truly a show of team work. This is true 21st century collaboration and learning. LOVE it!

Speeches have been written and students are practicing them with a partner daily. I taught them the elements of a good speech and public speaking tips.

Biography Day is on Friday, May 18th. Students should come dressed as their character, and ready to give their speeches. Since we have PE first thing in the morning that day, we will begin setting up the boards at 9:05. If parents want to take a peek, they may do so between 9:05-9:20. After that time the Nelda Mundy students will be coming in to visit and it will be too crowded with parents in there.

Testing News

We have finished the CAASPP test for this year! Students worked very hard and I could tell they were trying their best. I told the class that I wanted them to know that this was just one test, and not an indication of who they are as an individual. They are all awesome!

We still have to take the 3rd trimester MAP tests in ELA and Math. We will be taking them on Monday, May 21st and Thursday, May 24th.

Testing Returns Next Week!!!

TESTING BEGINS AGAIN!

This week we took a little break from the CAASPP testing. Starting on Tuesday, May 7th, we will be taking the Math portion of the test. We will be testing in the morning on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please do not schedule appointments or vacation days during this time.  Students should be practicing Math MAP Skills online nightly to prepare.

Progress Reports

Progress reports will be sent home on Monday, May 7th. Not all students will receive an official progress report. All students will receive a grade sheet printout. It is not necessary to sign and return the report. I will ask for a signature confirming that you've received it.

Living Museum Projects

The Biography Projects are coming along nicely! Most students have finished their writing, and are working on their boards. If their board is not completed by May 11th, we will send it home to be finished. All boards are due by May 16th.  The speeches, which we will work on in class, are due on May 16th also. We will practice on the 16th and 17th to be ready for the next day! They will be graded on their presentations, and it is a major part of their Reading, Writing, Presentation, and Social Studies grade for the trimester.

Last Scholastic Book Order

I sent home the last Scholastic book order for this year yesterday.  This will assure that we get delivery of the books before summer. This is a great time to stock up on summer reading. Summer can be a time for students to slide backwards if they don't keep up their reading. This is also a great time to read those "fun/silly" books, or to finish reading a series they have started. As always remember that when you go online to order you can order from any age group from babies/preschool to middle school/young adults.

Our class code is: GQZNM
Please order by: May 16th
