Read Across America Day

This Thursday, 3/2 is Dr. Seuss' birthday. It is also Read Across America Day. Our school will be recognizing this day by having a school-wide reading time from 2:00-2:15. Our entire school will move out into the courtyard and quad area and read for 15 minutes. In addition if students would like to get in the spirit, they can come to school dressed as their favorite book character.

News from Room 504

Next Thursday, March 2nd, is the LAST DAY to take AR quizzes for the 2^nd trimester.  New AR goals will be set soon for the 3^rd trimester.    

Biography Day is Thursday, March 2nd.  Students need to create a Google Slides [and “share” it with me on Google Classroom] highlighting the person’s life.  They should practice speaking in the “first person”—as if they are that person—but the presentation can be in 3^rd person.  Students need to PRACTICE before Thursday.  The Google Slides should act like note cards—they should be glanced at, not read.  We try really hard to get through all 34 in one day, but as you can imagine--it's a long day!!  I told the class that if they wanted to share earlier than Thursday they could.  They still have to dress up on the 2nd, but could share their presentation early.

Family STEAM Night

Family STEAM Night is on Thursday, March 2nd, from 5-7 PM in the MPR. The focus is on Math this time!  Come and join us for fun activities!

Biography Report Grade Sheet

Remember it's due on THURSDAY, March 2nd.  You should come to school dressed as your subject!  We will review how to upload slides to Google Classroom during class this week.  As the gradebook for 2nd trimester closes on Friday, March 3 (no school that day for students), late projects will not be accepted.

Annual Verification of Attendance

ALL STUDENTS need to return the Annual Verification of Student Residence by Tuesday, 2/28.  No one is being singled out--every student in the district must complete this form every year.   As of 2/21, we have received less than half of them back. (348 out of 782).

News from Room 504

        

Thank you to the room moms for putting on a fabulous Valentine's Day party!! We had a wonderful time. Thanks also to the moms and dads who came in to help!  You ROCK!!! 

**Over the weekend, I told the class that I would make a "checklist" for the Biography project.  Some students were feeling anxiety about how exactly to set up their project. Hopefully a checklist will alleviate some worry...  

**Also...I don't expect you to go out and spend a fortune on a costume. Use what you have, can make, or borrow...remember...

BIOGRAPHY DAY IS THURSDAY, MARCH 2ND!!!

If your child is going to Coloma--please disregard this message: Permission slips for the March 8, 2017, Sacramento field trip are due by Friday, February 24th.  We are collecting a donation of $20 (check payable to MCA) to offset the cost of the bus and the field trip.  I could still use one or two chaperones for the groups.  Let me know if you want to go!

 

We are getting close to our camp dates!!  WOOOHOO!!! Students brought home their Student Handbooks for CODS today!!!   These handbooks have information about our schedule, menus, and what to pack.  These handbooks should be kept in a safe & packed in your child's backback for our trip [for their reference].

Another one of our students was selected by the head Night Zookeepers in England to appear in the International Night Times this week. Very exciting!

There is a Student-led book club starting up for 3rd & 4th graders only.  The Book Club will meet on Thursdays from 2:30-3:30 in Room 501 starting on February 23rd.  There are only 10 spots available.  If you are interested, stop by Room 501 to pick up a permission slip ASAP.
