Support Your Child’s Reading Success!
Dear Families,
Did you know? Kids who read for just 20 minutes a day are more successful in school and life. Ordering from Scholastic Book Clubs is an easy way to find the best books that are just right for your child’s grade and interests. A book order was sent home today [Tuesday]
Here’s how:
Choose books with your child from the paper flyers or online at: scholastic.com/bookclubs
To order online, connect to our class using our Class Code (or look me up by our school name):
Class Code - GQZNM    Due date: September 14th
Bonus: This month, you can pick a FREE Book (up to $5) when you place an online order of $25 or more!
As soon as your order is delivered to our classroom, I will send it home with your child.
Plus every order you place earns FREE Books for our class to share.

Thank you for your support and happy reading,
*If we order $300 worth of books this order, we earn 10,000 BONUS Points that help me get FREE books for our classroom lending library.
*Remember that online you can order from any Scholastic catalog. They even have pre- reader / kindergarten selections.

Math Practice

We are working towards a No Homework Policy at Nelda Mundy. We feel time is better spent reading at night with your family. [See our school website for links to the research behind this movement] For those who require extra practice, students can:

Use your Everyday Math Log in to practice math games and revisit lessons. Go to GMAIL [student account]; Go to keypad: click on McGraw Hill Math [You must sign on to computer using your S number] {kids know what that is.}
There is also a link for additional math lessons on my website--we will get everything set up in the next few weeks.

Back to School Night

Back to School Night is Tuesday, August 28th.  Grades TK-2 will start at 5:00 PM & grades 3-5 will start at 6:15.  Be sure to mark your calendars!   This is a great opportunity for you to hear FIRST-HAND about our classroom, procedures, and what to expect in 4th grade!!
SEE YOU THEN!!!

Birthday Treats

This year we are not allowing cupcakes, cookies, or any sweet treats for student birthdays or for rewards. While this may seem like a drastic change from previous years, it follows the school district guidelines for healthy foods. There are a lot of great alternatives...maybe even donating a book in honor of his/her birthday to the classroom library.  Books are less expensive than cupcakes, anyway!

Fingerprinting

Live Scan Finger Printing will be available at Back to School Night, 8/28 from 3:05-4:15. The cost will be $47. Finger printing is required of parent volunteers at school and anyone that would go on field trips--like CAMP in March!!!

Flipgrid

FLIPGRID is an online tool we use for students to respond to a question or prompt. Sometimes the videos are made in class and sometimes they will be made at home. FLIPGRID can be used on a laptop, tablet, or iPhone. Kids are loving it. FLIPGRID gives every child in class a voice [even the quiet ones]. They also enjoy watching and respectfully commenting on each other's FLIPGRID.

Night Zookeeper

We have an online writing program that really gets kids writing. It is called the Night Zookeeper. I create writing assignments or the kids can free write. Once their work is approved by me it is posted to our classes Night Zookeeper BLOG. The program has classrooms from all over the world. Once we get further into it, we will be able to read writings from kids around the world and to comment on their work. They can do the same to our writing. There is a drawing/game element which keeps the kids interested. we will use it at school, but you are welcome to have them use it at home, too. The kid's link is our my website.

Padlet

PADLET is an online tool we use to discuss questions and quotations. It is a chance for every child to be able to express themselves to an audience. A new PADLET will be posted each week on the website and I will post a screen capture on Friday to Twitter. This week no names were used so the kids could express their inner thoughts. Most weeks, they will include their names. It is important for kids to know they are not alone and that others feel the same things.

First Week!!

Image result for school

We had a great first week in 4th grade!!
We got to know each other and made new friends through several community building activities. We have logged in to our devices and next we will start to work in several programs such as Night Zookeeper, PADLET, and Quizziz. We are establishing our routines and expectations. I would love to see Thinking Journals [front covers only] decorated by Monday. I will seal them here at school. It would be great if students had their personal supplies by Monday as well. We can always use additional supplies of black dry erase markers and pencils that we share as a class. We are good on Kleenex for now but I'll let you know when we need more.
Thank you for all of your donations so far.

Thank you to those who have emailed me so I can add them to our Class Email Contact List. Remember to bookmark our WEBSITE and sign up to receive BLOG UPDATES in the little spot to the right . My website has been moved to the "New" Google Sites and has a few glitches in it still :( The Parent Letter you received a paper copy of on Wednesday is the same as the one online [which is denying access]. A work in progress, they say it is improved from old sites [Ha, ha!]
