Mission Impossible

                            

The MISSION PROJECT is due after we come back from Winter Break--January 19th... Please try to use this break to your advantage.  Students will have just less than two weeks to work on it when we return.  Waiting until the last minute won't be fun for anyone!!!  

If you have questions over break about the mission project, please go to our class website.  I have uploaded the directions, rubrics, videos, and pictures of examples to help.

HOUR OF CODE

We coded this week!!  The kids loved it!!  Khan Academy, Scratch, Tynker and Hopscotch are FREE web-based sites for kids to explore and learn.    I put several links up on Google Classroom so that kids can code on their own.

COLOMA

Coloma money is due WEDNESDAY!! We need to make a second payment next week.  You can either pay the entire $125 balance now [and be done!], or pay two payments--$65 and $60 through January.  Either way, I need a payment by Wednesday, 12/14.  I also need the permission slip that was sent home in November.  

Bibliography

Part of your child's mission projects involves writing a bibliography.  I provided a sample in the assignment packet.  However, I will be teaching students how to write a bibliography when we return from break.  So, it might make sense to "hold off" on that section until January.

BOOK EXCHANGE

Before we leave for break, we will have a book exchange.  If your child wants to participate, s/he needs to bring in a wrapped, unmarked book.  The book should be good for both boys & girls--and appropriate for our reading levels.  Every student that brings in a book will get a different book in exchange through a fun game!! 

Spelling Bee & Robotics Club

Spelling Bee and Robotics Club

The schoolwide spelling bee will be held on January 17, 2017 at 2:30 pm. If you are interested in taking part, please let me know so I can add your name to the list!

ROBOTICS CLUB SESSION #2

Robotics Club Session 2 will be from February 8 - May 31 on Wednesdays from 2:30-3:30 in Room 707. If you would like to apply, be on the lookout for a Google Forms link in January. You can apply from January 11-25 and 22 students will be randomly selected on January 26. Winners will be notified by an email from Mrs. Choy.
-If you were in the first session of Robotics, you can't be in the club again. This is open to students in grades 3-5 only.
-If you were one of the 98 families who applied at the beginning of the year, apply again.
-Please only submit one application.

Thank you for your generous toy donations to Toys for Tots. Our boxes were overflowing. The kids had a great time playing dodgeball yesterday against the Air Force.

ANNUAL HOLIDAY FAIR!!

Tomorrow is our annual Holiday Fair!! Come to the MPR from 10-2 and make sure to stop by the Book Fair.  Hope to see your there!!  

The Book Fair runs through tomorrow!!  I have created a wish list of books we would like to add to our classroom library if you would like to help encourage reading in our class.  Thanks!

MISSION PROJECT!!!

I assigned the California Mission Project this week!!  It will be due after we come back from Winter Break.  Your child will have 2 weeks during school, the time off, plus a week or so after we get back.  The due date is JANUARY 19TH.  Please help your child NOT wait until the last minute...that's no fun for anyone!!  

VISIT A MISSION???

I suggest that you use the time over Winter Break to visit a local mission--there's one in Sonoma!!  Even if it not the mission your child ends up studying, and doing the project on, they are all "about the same" so your child would at least get an idea as to what a mission is like.  And...it's a nice excuse to spend some time learning about California's history!!

Toys for Tots!!

We continue to collect toys for Toys for Tots.  Please bring in a new, unwrapped toy to put in our drop off bins in the office. 4th & 5th graders who bring in a toy will get to play in the Air Force Dodgeball game on Thursday, December 8th @ 2:30. Let's encourage our kids to help those who are less fortunate than us this holiday season.
