THANK YOU!!!!

Image result for thanksThank you for the thoughtful cards, gifts and flowers for Teacher Appreciation Week!
I LOVE teaching your kiddos. We have a lot of fun together, and we all learn so much from each other. We still have a lot of ground to cover in the next 4 weeks. Let's keep the kids focused and on track for a strong finish as they head off to 5th grade.

Biography Day!!!

Biography Day is Tuesday, May 21st!!!

Students should come dressed as their character, and ready to give their speeches. Since other classes have PE or Art first thing in the morning that day, we will begin setting up the boards at 9:05. If parents want to take a peek, they may do so between 9:05-9:25. After that time, Nelda Mundy students will be coming in to visit and it will be too crowded with parents in there.  We can't wait!!

Testing News

We have finished the CAASPP test for this year!
WOOHOO!!!!

The class worked very hard and I could tell they were trying their best. I told the class that I wanted them to know that this was just one test, and not an indication of who they are as an individual. They are all AWESOME!

We still have to take the 3rd trimester MAP tests in Reading and Math. We will be taking them on Tuesday, May 28th and Wednesday, May 29th.

LAST Scholastic Book Order

I sent home the last Scholastic book order for this year this week.  This will assure that we get delivery of the books before summer. This is a great time to stock up on summer reading. Summer can be a time for students to slide backwards if they don't keep up their reading. This is also a great time to read those "fun/silly" books, or to finish reading a series they have started. As always remember that when you go online to order you can order from any age group from babies/preschool to middle school/young adults.

Our class code is: GQZNM
Please order by: May 22nd

Here we gooo....TESTING!!!

CAASPP Testing starts on Tuesday, May 7th. We will be testing in the morning from 8:30-10:30 every day Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for the next two weeks.  We will do Language Arts this week, and Math the following week.

You can help your child be prepared:
  • Make sure they arrive at school on time each morning.
  • Make sure they get a good night's sleep.
  • Make sure they eat a good breakfast.
  • Remind them to use their mindfulness technique (shark fin) to calm themselves.
  • Be positive and encouraging.
There are parts of the tests that require headphones. We have earbuds for each student, but if they are more comfortable bringing their own, they may bring their WIRED headphones from home. They should also bring a water bottle and a snack.

Living Museum Project

Students are hard at work on their biographies! Most students are finishing up working on their paragraphs for their display board.

If your child has items that need to be printed out, fancy paper, pictures, letters for the title, background paper, anything that they would like to put on their board, please have them bring it to school on Monday, May 6th. We will be working on creating our boards next week. I do have some measurements for those people who have been asking about the size of the board:

  • They are approximately 28"tall x 40" wide.
  • The center section allows for paper to be in landscape mode.
  • The side sections hold papers that are 8 1/2"x 11" in portrait mode
The boards will stay at school, but if they are not completed by May 10th, we will send them home for completion.  Completed board MUST be brought back to school by Wednesday, May 15th for grading.  Speeches will be shared with me on Wednesday, May 15th and Thursday, May 16th.

We are really enjoying this project and learning a lot from it. We will be presenting them to Mundy students on May 21st  from 9:30-11:30. Parents are welcome to come after 9:05 and before 9:30 that day to assist with set up and to view projects.
