Report Card Conferences

Next Friday, November 3rd, there is no school for students
It is a workday for teachers so we can write report cards.  Any adjustments to tests, assignments must be completed by Thursday, November 2nd, which is when the first trimester ends.

AR goals are due November 2nd as well!!

Conferences will be coming up the week of November 13-16. I sent out a SignUp Genius form to your email address yesterday so you can sign up for a convenient conference slot.

  • Conferences are 20 minutes in length. Please be on time.
  • Your child should come to the conference so he/she can discuss learning goals with you.

Halloween

Next Tuesday is Halloween!  We have a party and costume parade in the afternoon. The morning will be a regular day, except with some activities that are Halloween-themed. Students may wear their costumes to school on Tuesday. There are a few things to remember about Halloween Costumes:
  • No weapons of any kind (good idea to even keep princess, Harry Potter-type wands at home, too).
  • No masks with blood.
  • Masks may only be worn during the parade, but no other time.
Wednesday, November 1 will be Pajama Day (comfy clothes day). Students may wear pajamas (school appropriate) to school.

Math Practice at Home

Yes, we don't have required math homework, but we are finding that some of our 4th graders lack their basic math facts including addition and subtraction. They also need more practice in the skills they are learning.

Xtra Math
Xtra Math is a great place to practice math facts DAILY. We recommend at least 10 minutes a day at home. We will be using Xtra Math in class,too. 10 minutes each day will help them commit the facts to memory!

Khan Academy
Today we set up our accounts on Khan Academy.  [ www.khanacademy.org/mappers ]

This site allows students practice on math skills based on their individual MAP scores. This is a GREAT resource because is individualized practice geared to the strengths and weaknesses of your child.  Students have their RIT scores in their "TAKE HOME FOLDERS."  10 minutes a day would really boost your kids in their math skills.

Halloween Party

Image result for halloween

Due to the chaos of last week & knowing that some of us are still trying to get our lives back to "normal"... instead of sending out a Sign-up Genius, our party planners are asking that each family donate $5.  They will take care of everything--the food, decorations and activities for entire class.
An envelope went home today for you to return to school next week.
Thank you for your help!!

Birthday Treats
Clarification on Nelda Mundy's policy:
If you want to bring any food items to share with the class for your child's birthday, you will need to get prior approval through the district at least 2 weeks beforehand.  So....it might just make more sense to find a "non-food" item--if you want to bring something to class.  Get creative!!

Xtra Math
We set up accounts this week for online Math Facts practice.  Students can also access this resource at home at XtraMath.org.  Right now we need to really focus on multiplication since so much of 4th grade math relies on students knowing these facts.

Coins for Critters
Our annual Coins for Critters drive, sponsored by Student Council, starts Tuesday, 10/10. Please bring in spare change for us to donate to the Suisun Wildlife Center. If we raise enough money, they will give our school a free assembly!
