Valentine's Day Party

We will be having our Valentine's Day party on February 14th.  A SIGNUP GENIUS will be coming out soon!!  
Please watch for it!!

We have 34 students in our class!!  If your child wants to pass out valentines at the party, s/he needs to make sure to have one for each person in the class.   No one should be left out!!  

PACKING LIST

I sent home a packing list today for Coloma--just so that you can start thinking & planning for our trip.  Kids should definitely have GOOD WALKING / HIKING SHOES [waterproof??] for our trip--and not brand new ones that they just got "for camp." They should be broken in so that we are not contending with blisters--ugh, those are NEVER fun.  

Breakout Box PHOTOS!!

We experienced our first "Breakout Box" today--similar to those "Escape Rooms" that are becoming popular.  We had a great time--collaborating, communicating with each other, being creative and thinking critically!!  We broke out with 22 minutes to spare and are ready for another one....WOOHOO!!!  

Mystery Science & NGSS

We are about to start Mystery Science in our class. This week, we will investigate whether a volcano could erupt in our backyards...YIKES!!  This is an online program for teachers that brings the NGSS to life. NGSS stands for Next Generation Science Standards and is an exciting new approach to science across all grade levels. The Mystery Science lessons involve real life videos, pictures and articles taken directly from the news. Students use creative thinking and collaborate with other students to solve questions and sometimes design solutions. We are stepping away from our textbook as it has become a dated tool. Ask your kids what they learned during the Mystery Science lessons & activities. Grades will be taken from classwork and end of unit assessments that measure student's understanding and application of new concepts.

Next Thursday is our 80s/Neon Spirit Wear Day. I'm never sure why the kids love this one so much, but they do. Have fun! Be creative!

MAP Assessment Information [REPOST]

We will be taking the MAP test for the 2nd trimester [tomorrow] Tuesday, January 10th, Wednesday, January 11th (Reading), and Wednesday, January 18th (Math).  MAP Testing is given three times a year- fall, winter, and spring in order to assess and celebrate growth!  

The first assessment was the baseline and showed us strengths and areas for growth.

Spirit Wear Orders

I hope that you are all having a great week!  Attached, please find the information for Spirit Wear (there are new shirts on the order form / ladies cut shirts and “Mundy Mom” shirts).  Please note that spirit wear is ONLY available on the app.  To download the app – please look for “Nelda Mundy Elementary School”.  Orders will be taken until January 30^th.

Coloma ~ Money due WEDNESDAY!!

FINAL COLOMA PAYMENT:  The final payment for camp is due NOW!!!  I sent home a note last week indicating your balance.  Please have all money in to me by 

January 18.  We will need to make our final payment to Coloma soon after that.  

MEDICAL INFORMATION FORM:  Attached to the Coloma money information is a lavender Medical Information Form for camp.  Please fill it out in its entirety (both sides) and return to me ASAP.  If your child will require any medication while at camp (both prescription and OTC), the form must be signed by your child’s doctor.  Your child will not be allowed to keep the medication with them.  We will keep it safe and provide the medication when/as needed.  Please don’t send “just in case…” medication—if your child is sick enough to need medicine, s/he will most likely need to go home.
