Back to School Night is Tuesday, August 29th. Grades 3-5 will be from 5:00-6:15 & grades TK-2 will be from 6:30-7:45. Be sure to mark your calendars! This is a great opportunity for you to hear FIRST-HAND about our classroom, procedures, and what to expect in 4th grade!!
PADLET is an online tool we use to discuss questions and quotations. It is a chance for every child to be able to express themselves to an audience. A new PADLET will be posted each week on the website and I will post a screen capture on Friday to Twitter. This week no names were used so the kids could express their inner thoughts. Most weeks, they will include their names. It is important for kids to know they are not alone and that others feel the same things.
FLIPGRID is an online tool we use for students to respond to a question or prompt. Sometimes the videos are made in class and sometimes they will be made at home. FLIPGRID can be used on a laptop, tablet, or iPhone. Kids are loving it. FLIPGRID gives every child in class a voice [even the quiet ones]. They also enjoy watching and respectfully commenting on each other's FLIPGRID.
We have an online writing program that really gets kids writing. It is called the Night Zookeeper. I create writing assignments or the kids can free write. Once their work is approved by me it is posted to our classes Night Zookeeper BLOG. The program has classrooms from all over the world. Once we get further into it, we will be able to read writings from kids around the world and to comment on their work. They can do the same to our writing. There is a drawing/game element which keeps the kids interested. we will use it at school, but you are welcome to have them use it at home, too. The kid's link is our my website.
We are working towards a No Homework Policy at Nelda Mundy. We feel time is better spent reading at night with your family. [See our school website for links to the research behind this movement] For those who require extra practice, students can:
Use your Everyday Math Log in to practice math games and revisit lessons. Go to GMAIL [student account]; Go to keypad: click on McGraw Hill Math [You must sign on to computer using your S number] {kids know what that is.}
There is also a link for additional math lessons on my website.
We have had a great first week! Your kids are great. They caught on quickly to our new routines. We had fun leaning about each other. See Twitter Feed [on the right] for photos for some of the cool things we did this week. We started making FLIPGRID getting to know you videos. We posted our Book Bingo boards to keep track of all of the books we will be reading this year. There's more to come!!
Your Parent Homework is to fill out the mountain of paperwork we sent home. Please get it turned in by this Friday. Thanks! Nightly Homework: Students should be reading & discussing their Thinking Journal with you nightly. I expect kids to read for 30 minutes each night.
Mystery Science Eclipse Video
The Window of Eclipsing is from9:01 - 11:37am, and maximum exposure (70%) is at 10:15am. We will have a whole school viewing from 10:00am-10:30am. All students will be provided approved Solar Eclipse glasses. Please discuss with your child the importance of keeping these glasses on during the eclipse.
Welcome to 4th grade ~ Room 504!! I am looking forward to an exciting year together. Please subscribe to this BLOG to get updates as I post them [link/box on the right if you are on a computer]. ~Check out our website Mrs. Broschard's Website ~Parents please fill out this parent questionnaire so I can get to know your child better. ~Here is a copy of the general 4th Grade Supply List. Please do not buy binders or notebooks as we have no storage for binders and I have already purchased some of the notebooks your child will need. In addition your child will need 2plastic folders--with prongs. We'd love some of the brightly colored POST-IT notes from Costco & clear packing tape, too.
