We successfully completed our learning about the Native Americans in California this week. With the information we learned through study & research, students created a Google Slides presentation AND posted their final product to their personal BLOG! If you haven't checked our your child's BLOG [which will be their online portfolio this year], please take the time to do so soon. They really are proud [and I AM too!!!] of the work they are doing!!

PROGRESS REPORTS
Progress Reports are coming home the week of October 10th. Please remember these are “progress” grades. Grades can always change [up or down] by Report Card time. Since it is still early in the year, I typically give most students "S" [as appropriate] in the behavior categories until I get a better sense of them as learners & workers.
COLOMA!!!
The 10/7 deadline is coming up!! We have about 75 students signed up, but would love to take MORE!! If you are still unsure please check out the COLOMA WEBSITE for daily schedules, menus, FAQ, and more!! If you have said "YES" to going, but haven't paid yet, please do so by October 7th as well.
Book Approval
Students have already been getting their book report books approved by me each day. YAY!!
They need to bring the book to show me, and know the genre and book level. They can also pick up copies of the book report project they have selected at this time. Book reports are due on Tuesday, October 25th.

This Week's Happenings...
We have been busy this week with our new math program. We have checked out many of the online games that correspond with our daily lesson such as Rugs & Fences [area & perimeter] and Factor Capture [factors & products]. All of these games are available to students at home--through their district email accoung. We also read a non fiction article in NEWSELA using our "Close Reading" strategies. We have even posted work from Genius Hour on our BLOGS. Check out our BLOGS and ourTwitter feed to see what we have been up to.
Accelerated Reader
We are at the halfway mark for the trimester. Please ask your child about his/her AR goal. I have many students that are barely “on the board,” and some that haven’t taken any quizzes yet…yikes!! Your child has until early November to meet his/her goal.
1st Trimester Book Report
Students should be finding a book soon that is at least 100 pages long, within their reading level, and a book they haven't read before.
Students can select from three genres, and from three different projects. Specific directions are available on my website [to help make a decision] and in the class [once a decision has been made].

Have fun!!
Label Chromebooks PLEASE!!!
Please be sure to label your child's Chromebook or device. It needs to be something permanent. With so many devices, we need a way to tell them apart. Especially if a child leaves one at school, I like to be able to notify you.

First Library Lesson Today
We had our first library lesson from Mrs. Cottman. We have the pleasure of having a "real life" librarian teach us library skills once a month!! Today, students had to be genre detectives and figure out what genre their stack of books came from. The kids had a lot of fun. See Twitter Feed for photos.
