TESTING...and what's next

As of today, your child has [almost] finished with the ELA portion of the CAASPP test! The mornings have been long and tedious, but they have risen to the challenge! I want to congratulate them on their stamina, because it's not easy to wait for everyone to finish!

After finishing Part 2 of today's session on Monday [4/30], we will take the week of 4/30-5/4 off from testing, and resume the math portion of the CAASPP on Tuesday, May 8th.

We will do the 3rd trimester MAP testing in ELA/Math during the week of 5/21.

Living Museum Project

Students are hard at work on their biographies! Most students have submitted their notes for my review, and are working on their paragraphs for their display board.

If your child has items that are printed out, fancy paper, pictures, letters for the title, background paper, anything that they would like to put on their board, please have them bring it to school on Monday, April 30th. We will be working on creating our boards next week. I do have some measurements for those people who have been asking about the size of the board:

  • They are approximately 27"tall x 39" wide.
  • The center section allows for paper to be in landscape mode.
  • The side sections hold papers that are 8 1/2"x 11" in portrait mode.
We are going to allow students to sponge paint the background, or they can bring in their own paper backgrounds.

The boards will stay at school, but if they are not completed by May 11, we will send them home for completion.

We are really enjoying this project and learning a lot from it. We will be presenting them to Mundy students on May 18th from 9:30-11:30. Parents are welcome to come after 9:05 and before 9:30 that day to assist with set up and to view projects.

FUN RUN

Thanks for all your donations to the Fun Run!!
We have had a great time building character and helping our school buy technology!
Our class ran a total of 1, 466 laps today--that's over 91.5 miles!! AMAZING!!!

LIVING MUSEUM PROJECT (aka Biography Day)

Your child should have his/her book read by Monday, April 23rd, as we will begin our note-taking activity in the afternoon that day. Please have him/her bring their book to school. We will also be working on research skills using the internet. As they finish their research, I will be reviewing their notes to make sure they are ready to move on to the next part of the process, which will be showing them how to set up the board.

How can you help?

  1. You can help your child print out color pictures for the board (no bigger than 5x7).
  2. You can send in poster decorations for your child to use to make the board colorful (letters, colored scrapbook paper, etc.) Please send in things for your child's board only--we will not be allowing them to share materials.
  3. You can help with memorizing the short speech (we will go over what to include).
  4. On Friday, May 18, you can make sure your child is dressed as his/her character.
9:05-9:20 that morning will be set up time. If parents would like to preview the museum, this would be the time to do it. After that time, the museum will be for Nelda Mundy students only.
