This week we started learning about the missions of California!! Students selected a mission to research and will dive in next week to becoming an "expert" on that mission. Once research is done [both online & from books], your child will create a Google Slides presentation to share with the class. This is an individual project and will be primarily done at school. I have given the class specific instructions and have also shown them several examples so that they see exactly what is expected. Great learning is happening--both through the research of an important time in California's history, and the tech skills being developed to create an awesome presentation!! Can't wait...!!!
If your child wishes to build a model of a mission--be my guest!!--but it is not required! I will have more specific guidelines for building a mission in the next week. Don't go out and buy a kit just yet...
Before we leave for break, we will have a book exchange. If your child wants to participate, s/he needs to bring in a wrapped, unmarked book. The book should be good for both boys & girls--and appropriate for our reading levels. Every student that brings in a book will get a different book in exchange through a fun ["White Elephant" type] game!!
We will need to make a second payment before we leave on break. If you haven't done so already, please send in your second payment [either $75 or the remaining $150] and the permission slip by December 14th. Thanks!!
We coded this week!! The kids loved it!! Khan Academy, Scratch, Tynker and Hopscotch are FREE web-based sites for kids to explore and learn. I put several links up on Google Classroom so that kids can code on their own.
